
FOUNDERS' STORY
The Emelie Foundation was established in 2016 by Prof. Haresh C. Shah, his wife, Mary-Joan H. Shah and their two sons, Hemant H. Shah and Mihir H. Shah.
Prof. Haresh C. Shah is professor emeritus and former chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. Together with son, Hemant H. Shah, Prof. Haresh C. Shah co-founded Risk Management Solutions, Inc. in 1989 in Newark, Calif.
Mary-Joan Shah is of Dutch-Indonesian descent and was born in Indonesia. In 1958, she migrated to the United States. She then completed her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the San Francisco State University. She met Haresh Shah in 1962 and were married in 1965. She has served the Palo Alto school district for 15 years before finally retiring in 2000.
Hemant H. Shah is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of RMS Inc. He is also a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute and is a member of the Aspen Global Leadership.
Mihir H. Shah has founded and headed multiple exciting companies including CookEatShare, Tapjoy and Flyby. Since 2015, Mihir H. Shah has served as the Founder and CEO of Immersv, a Virtual Reality company.
Today, the family of Haresh C. Shah works together to contribute to the education of women in India.
